Hippopotamus Gold Lapel Pin
In April of 2023, I started a little Social Group comprised of IT Project Managers at my workplace. We used to work together, but due to reorganizations, we now work in different locations and for different Agencies. But we wanted to keep in touch and get together from time to time for Lunch and Dinner.
I called it Team Hippo.
The name is an irreverent recognition of having to do pointless work at times. The name comes from a story I read.
A college student wasn’t sure if his professor was reading his papers. So, he slipped the work “Hippopotamus” in the paper somewhere. The word “Hippopotamus” would clearly not be in context.
If his professor said anything about it, he would claim it was a typo or some sort of errant auto correct.
If his professor didn’t mention anything, then chances are, he wasn’t reading the papers.
His professor never mentioned it.
From time to time, our previous manager required us to draft meeting agendas and minutes for recurring status meetings which no one ever read. We knew this because on more than one occasion, some of use mistakenly distributed the previous week’s minutes and nobody ever said anything. No one mentioned the Hippopotamus.

I ordered the Pins to give to each of my Team Hippo members. As time went on, my little Social Group grew as I invited additional members to join. I have ordered three times for a total of 30 pins.
My team members have been quite impressed with the quality of the beautiful gold pins. We wear them with pride at our lunches and dinners.
